About How to Climb
How to Climb was founded by Alex Riley, a highly experienced climber, instructor, and mountain guide based in North Wales.
Alex is passionate about helping people develop their climbing and mountaineering skills through well-structured, high-quality instruction. He believes the best learning happens when people feel supported, listened to, and encouraged to progress at their own pace — with professionalism, patience, and a genuine enjoyment of being in the mountains.
Every course is built around personal connection and honest progression, whether you’re completely new to rock climbing or looking to refine your trad or multi-pitch skills. Alex’s approach is practical, supportive, and straightforward, helping climbers build confidence, sound technique, and real independence on the rock — without unnecessary pressure or ego.
Alongside instruction, Alex also provides professional climbing services including film safety, location scouting, and technical rigging. These services are delivered with the same care, integrity, and attention to detail, ensuring every project — and every climbing environment — is managed safely, responsibly, and with a sense of calm competence.
